We are an international organization that provides professional development and career coaching to graduate students and PhDs who are interested in non-faculty careers. While our focus is primarily on North America, we have members from the U.K and Australia, too. Our founders, Jennifer Polk and Maren Wood, earned PhDs in history. They know first hand the challenges of transitioning from academia to life beyond the professoriate.
Graduate students, ABDs, and graduate degree holders who are exploring career options or looking for a non-faculty job. Our members include current students, recent graduates, postdocs, adjunct instructors, and professors. Most are based in the United States or Canada, but we welcome members from other parts of the globe.
Our past webinars are recorded and available to rent by members in our Video Library. When you rent the video, you’ll be asked to create an account with Vimeo, our video hosting provider. The rental period for each video is 30 days, and each individual video costs US $9. Note that this does not include the conference videos, which are handled separately.
Mentors are members who can give advice to PhD job seekers and career explorers. Generally speaking, they are a few years into a career beyond the professoriate, and want to help others succeed in their own nascent non-faculty careers. Most mentors are also featured in videos on the site.
We welcome ABDs, PhDs, and other terminal degree holders to be panelists or speakers at our online events (webinars). To indicate your interest in being a panelist, please fill out this form. If you’d like to pitch a specific topic for a workshop or presentation, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org (Please note that we tend to plan several months in advance.)
We accept submissions for either our University Affairs blog or our own blog.
